Join the Black Women's Agenda for a Special Engagement

Published on 8/2/2021
Join us Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 9:00 p.m. EDT for an impactful conversation about “RESPECT.” The long-awaited biopic chronicles Aretha Franklin’s journey to find her voice in the midst of the turbulent social and political landscape of 1960s America. During this special engagement, presented by The Links, Incorporated, The Society, Incorporated, and The Black Women’s Agenda, we will examine the Queen of Soul’s life story to advance conversations about critical women’s issues that Franklin persevered through and are a lived-experience for millions of Black women throughout our communities. From gender and racial bias, to pay inequities, to fighting for social justice, the depth of Franklin’s story is inspiring and holds lessons for us all as we navigate finding, harnessing, and elevating our own voices in today’s world, and earning a little respect.

Special guests Sonya Lockett, chief impact officer at One Community, and Daniella Robinson-Asfaw, vice president, field publicity, promotions, and head of targeting for United Artists Releasing, will sit down with Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, Ph.D., national president of The Links, Incorporated; Gwendolyn B. Lee, Ph.D., 14th national president of The Links, Incorporated and national president of The Society, Incorporated; Gwainevere Catchings Hess, president of the Black Women’s Agenda; Joyce Jackson, Ph.D., national director of The Arts for The Links, Incorporated; and, Marilyn Monroe, national assistant director, The Arts for The Links, Incorporated. In addition to discussing the important messages “RESPECT” conveys, Lockett and Robinson-Asfaw will also pull back the curtain on their careers in the entertainment and media industries, share about their accomplishments and influences, and discuss their journey to being a part of this powerful movie.

This event will be hosted on The Links, Incorporated Facebook page (@thelinksinc) and via Zoom – bit.ly/CREATIVELINKS_AUG3. To join us via Zoom, registration is required.
